Sister Sylvester is the name of a ghost who haunted the company’s first home/studio/performance venue and it became the company name for its gender-bending, feminist and spectral associations.

Sister Sylvester makes performances where drama and fiction smash up against documents and fact, and the realities of life (the lives of the performers, the lives of those we encounter in the process of making a piece) twist themselves around into live performance.

Our work is concerned with power and the theatrical and not-so-theatrical ways that it is wielded within our society. Sister Sylvester invite disruption into both the performance and the process, and look for dissonance and difficulty in text, image and sound.
